We are recording a Podcast!

Who will win the European Football Championship? Where does chocolate actually come from? How do you solve an argument between friends? What exciting elements are there in the periodic table? And how many more cupcakes will our principal get at children's birthdays?

The 4eb class has been working on these questions over the past two school weeks as part of their German lessons and not only researched the answers, but also recorded them as a podcast.

What is a podcast? After these two weeks, the 4eb students can easily explain: Basically, a podcast is a radio program that you can listen to anytime, anywhere - and in which you can also talk about whatever you want.

After initial research on the topic of podcasts, it quickly became clear to the students what they wanted to talk about: One podcast would be about chocolate and one about friendship, while another group would explore the periodic table. Furthermore, different sports would be introduced, and one team decided to present our school by interviewing the principal, a teacher and a student.

In the next step, fountain pens scratched eagerly over the paper, the students fine-tuned their ideas and wrote the speech texts and their interview questions. After a speech training session, the time had finally come: The first podcast was recorded in the "podcast studio". An exciting moment for everyone involved! Speaking into the recording device has many advantages for the young speakers: No one has to know their lines by heart and small slips of the tongue can be cut out afterwards.

That was the next step right after recording: The students edited their recordings on the iPads, cut the texts and added music. The children's hard work was definitely worth it - but listen for yourself!

A very big thank you goes to the team from the Innsbruck-based film and podcast production company stubnhocker, who provided us with the podcast-equipment free of charge!
